January 24~ St. Timothy, Bishop, Martyr

Saint_Timothy

St. Timothy was a friend and disciple of St. Paul. He was a close companion and fellow worker with St. Paul on many of the latter’s missionary travels. As Bishop of Ephesus he received two letters from St. Paul which bear his name. He was stoned to death. Novena for the Feast of the Purification begins today.

Follow after justice, godliness, faith, charity, patience, mildness. Fight the good fight of faith; lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art called, and hast confessed a good confession before many witnesses. ~Epistle of St. Paul to Timothy, vi

In Me the love of thy friend ought to stand; and for Me is he to be loved whoever he be, that appearth to thee good and much to be loved in this life. ~Imitation: Book III

Ideal:  St. Paul called him “my beloved son Timothy.” Have you ever read Paul, Hero and Saint? Read it today, if you want the story of two real live heroes.

Today: The main reason for the success of men like today’s saint was their willingness to work regardless of whether they got a great deal of attention from men or not. Will you try to impress it ever so deeply on your own mind that the only worthwhile regard is that of God?

Slogan: Write it on your heart that God’s love only is worth striving after.
