St. Philip was one of the first chosen disciples of our Lord. On the way from Judea to Galilee our Lord found Philip and said: “Follow Me.” Philip straightway obeyed. On the dispersion of the Apostles among the nations, St. James was left as Bishop of Jerusalem. The Jews so venerated his purity, mortification, and prayer, that they called him “the Just.”

Oh, how many and grievous tribulations did the Apostles suffer, and the Martyrs, and Confessors, and Virgins, and all the rest who resolved to follow the steps of Christ. ~Imitation: Book I

Ideal: These two of the Twelve have their feast together as Simon and Jude have theirs in October. This James is not the son of Zebedee, however, whose feast is in July.

Today: Instead of wasting your time wishing you had lived at the time of our Lord, go right over to church or stop there on your way home this noon and thank our Lord for living next door, where you are sure to find Him at any time, rather than have you go to Bethsaida and find He had gone with His disciples to Jerusalem.
