The prodigies and miracles which this saint worked earned for him the title Thaumaturgus or wonderworker. At his word a rock moved from its place, a river changed its course, a lake was dried up.

  Amen, I say to you, that whatsoever shall say to this mountain, Be thou removed and be cast into the sea; and shall not stagger in his heart, but believe, that whatsoever he saith shall be done; it shall be done unto him. –Gospel: Mark. xii. 23.

  It is better to supplicate the saints in devout prayers and tears, and with an humble mind to implore their glorious suffrages, than by a vain inquisitiveness to search into their secrets. –Imitation: Book III.

  Ideal: Do you think the things this saint did were wonderful? You can work much greater miracles. It is plain to see that the saint himself had little to do with actual moving of the rocks, or the drying up of the lake; God did that at the saint’s prayer. If you remove from your own life the rocks of selfishness and dry up of the lakes of vanity and vainglory, you must do most of that yourself, assisted by His grace, of course. But your part of the task is not at all easy, as you know, if you know, if you have ever tried.

  Today: Sometime today, when nobody is watching you, draw lines representing by their length the strength and vigor of the virtues you have practiced since you began reading this bulletin in September. Later on, when we have lines long enough to see, we shall draw them long enough to represent the bad habits we have corrected, and how much we have corrected them.

  Slogan: If a man shall succeed in a lifetime to destroy a single bad habit entirely, he shall have done well.
