This Neopolitan nobleman became a doctor of law at the early age of 16. A mistake, by which he lost an important case, showed him the vanity earthly fame, and determined him to work only for the glory of God. He became a priest and founded the Order of the Most Holy Redeemer. His religious books evidence his ardent love of the Savior and His Blessed Mother.
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, wherefore He hath anointed me, to preach the Gospel to the poor. He hath sent me, to heal the contrite of heart. ~Introit
Look upon the lively examples of the holy Fathers, in whom shone real perfection and the religious life, and thou wilt see how little it is and almost nothing that we do. ~Imitation: Book I
Ideal~ St. Alphonsus made a vow never to waste time. Many of his books were written in the odd half hours snatched from his work as a missionary, a religious superior, and bishop, or in the midst of bodily and mental suffering.
Today~ Don’t waste a minute of time today. Even such times as “just waiting” can be utilized by making little aspirations of love.
Slogan~ They labor also who only stand and wait.
